Course Description

This first aid training course provides learners with essential guidance on life-threatening bleed control, including the inherent dangers associated with using tourniquets and haemostatic dressings while administering First Aid in a high-risk working environment.
All learners must hold, as a minimum requirement, an in-date Level 3 Emergency First Aid or Level 3 First Aid at Work qualification to ensure they are prepared for workplace safety training.
Assessment: Although there is no formal assessment, the trainer will assess each individual on an ongoing basis throughout the course.
A certificate of attendance will be issued to all successful candidates.

Syllabus
This first aid training course covers a range of subjects essential for effective life-threatening bleed control, including:
- Equipment
- Changes to the guidelines
- Recognising a life-threatening external bleed
- Control measures and equipment
- Improvised tourniquets
- Wound packing techniques
- Manufactured tourniquets
- Haemostatic dressings
- Casualty aftercare
- Dangers of the incorrect use of tourniquets and haemostatic products
Additionally, this training is vital for enhancing workplace safety training by equipping participants with the necessary skills to respond to critical situations.

Prerequisite - All learners must hold, at a minimum, an in-date Level 3 Emergency First Aid or Level 3 First Aid at Work qualification to participate in the first aid training course.
Additional Training: The HSE strongly recommends that all students attend this workplace safety training course every 3 years to refresh their skills, especially in life-threatening bleed control.
A maximum of 16 students are allowed, and they must be at least 18 years of age.
A certificate of attendance will be issued. There is no expiry date on the certificate, as it is attendance-only; however, we recommend attending this course every 3 years to ensure your skills are up to date.
