Unit 1 title: Emergency First Aid in the Workplace Unit code:
Learners will acquire the essential skills and knowledge to serve as Emergency First Aiders within the organization, enabling them to treat casualties promptly, safely, and effectively. This emergency first aid at work training is crucial for ensuring workplace safety.
Duration: A minimum of six contact hours in the classroom, which will include both practical and theoretical activities. Some pre-course preparation may also be required. Ideally, this first aid training course should be conducted over one day; however, it can be extended over a longer period if desired, as long as it is completed within 4 weeks of starting the course, with each training session lasting at least two hours.

Syllabus
This emergency first aid at work course covers a range of subjects, including:
- Responsibilities and reporting
- Assessment of the situation
- Dealing with an unresponsive casualty
- Basic hygiene in First Aid
- Resuscitation and AED awareness
- Anatomy
- Minor injuries
- Bleeding control
- Burns
- Choking
- Epilepsy
- Shock
Certification: Practical assessment is ongoing by the instructor, and a three-year qualification will be issued to those who satisfy the criteria following this first aid training, ensuring compliance with workplace safety training standards.

Additional Training: The HSE strongly recommends that all students participate in an annual three-hour refresher programme focused on emergency first aid at work. TrainSafe-UK offers this training for free as part of our ongoing client support for first aid training.
A maximum of 12 students are allowed, and participants must be at least 14 years of age. A certificate recognizing their completion of the workplace safety training can be provided to all, subject to assessment.
Students cannot assume workplace responsibilities until they reach the age of 16, at which point it becomes the employer’s duty to ensure that the student is suitable for their assigned role.
Please note that the certificate will expire as indicated on the document, regardless of the holder's age.
